PILOT PLANT PRODUCTION FACILITY FOR MICROWAVE SUBSTRATES
Flexible Microwave Substrates are used for variety of high end wireless communication applications which include military radars, collision avoidance systems, wireless LAN, high power solid state amplifiers, Global positioning satellite antennas, Direct broadcast satellites, low noise amplifiers etc. Currently these strategically important microwave circuit boards are imported from foreign sources. Understanding the need for indigenous technology, C-MET has developed a proprietary processing methodology comprising of Sigma Mixing, Extrusion, Calendering followed by Hot pressing (SMECH) process to fabricate dimensionally stable, planar and isotropic PTFE/ceramic composite laminates. A pilot plant production facility, the first of its nature in the country, has been established at C-MET, Thrissur named as “ Homi Bhabha Birth Centenary Memorial Process Laboratory for Microwave Materials” to augment the microwave substrate size to 8”x8”. This unique facility was dedicated to the nation by Dr. Srikumar Banerjee, then Chairman, Department of Atomic energy on 28.01.2011
